Need:
Visually impaired people need to be able to orient themselves in complicated structures and unfamiliar places (e.g. department stores).
Solution:
Our premise is that skins tactile, interactive perceptive modalities can be mimicked and the results can used to help people who are visually impaired to orient themselves in complex environments. The e-Skin provides tactile and acoustic cues for navigation in these environments and thereby partially compensates for vision loss.
